A Path for better Mental Health

The winter months for many can be hard with less light, cold and at times isolation. You may be someone that struggles throughout the year, with mental health. Whatever you or yours are going through this winter season, or throughout the year, take daily steps to improve your physical and spiritual health, and your mental health will improve.

Creating a routine, exercising regularly, having fellowship with others, laughter, hobbies, giving and receiving affection, developing a life of prayer, meditating on the Word of God, all increase a neurotransmitter which stabilizes behavior, mood, memory, and gastrointestinal homeostasis, when Serotonin is low depression and anxiety are high. When Dopamine is low, depression, schizophrenia and psychosis and other health concerns come to the surface.

Check your levels of Omega-3,Vitamin B,B6, B-12,C,D, Folate and Zinc. Low levels can contribute to depression and anxiety and other health issues. Taking the right amount of vitamins and minerals at the right time of day also matters. Eating fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains is optimal for brain and mental health. Take time to prepare and eat healthy meals. Foods with polyphenol curcumin, turmeric, resveratrol from grapes, quercetin from onions, sulforaphane from broccoli, green tea, raspberries, pomegranates have antioxidants for reducing free radicals at a 1:1 ratio combating environmental toxins, stress, and poor foods. Eating right is taking care of your physical health, and betters your mental health.
